In the late 1890’s, N.F. Field, a Fergus Falls attorney, began preparing abstracts of title as part of his legal practice. In 1920, N.F. Field Abstract Company became a corporation, laying the foundation for the business that continues operating under its original name.

N.F. Field’s son, Cyrus, also an attorney, took ownership of the company in the late 1940’s. With his practice focused on corporate law, Cyrus took in a managing partner, Neal Morstad, who handled the day to day operations of the abstract company. They enjoyed a partnership spanning nearly 50 years, with the company growing in both size and scale. Mr. Morstad’s sons, Tom and Jim, would eventually join him in the business, forming a working relationship that fosters a culture of “family” that is so important to the success of the company. That family includes several staff members who have been with the company for decades, and are so vital to solving the complex issues that oftentimes arise in a real estate transaction.

While preparing and updating abstracts of title remains a core part of the business, title insurance and real estate closings have become so very important in today’s real estate market. With ever-changing regulations and compliance, our staff is committed to being educated and up-to-date. Our clients deserve great service, whatever their needs may be, and our goal is to provide that service in a dedicated, timely and professional manner.

N.F. Field began with that mission over 100 years ago, and we strive each and every day to carry on that tradition. We look forward to another century of delivering exceptional title services to the communities of Otter Tail County and the surrounding area.
